Quang Nguyen and Kenny Savercool Promoted

Monday, June 7th, 2010 @ 11:11 pm

Congratulations to two of Fifty/50′s most dedicated students for their promotion to purple belt!

Kenny Savercool has shown great improvement during his time on the team, winning tournament after tournament, as well as a handful of MMA fights. As a blue belt, he was a CBJJ Pan American bronze medalist, CBJJ New York Open champion, and an Abu Dhabi Pro Trials champion. Immediately following the conclusion of the 2010 Mundial, Kenny hopped a red eye flight home, went directly to work, from there to the gym, and was surprised by being told to wrestle 22 of his teammates back-to-back to earn his place as a Fifty/50 purple.

After going unscored upon and taking second place at the CBJJ Pan American championship this year (blue belt roosterweight), Quang Nguyen looked like an early favorite for a gold medal at the Mundial. Unfortunately, a fairly serious injury kept him off the mats long enough to prevent him from competing, but we look forward to seeing Quang back in the tournaments soon. That, and he still has to give every person in the room the chance to give him the beating he so truly deserves. haha.

Earning a blue belt is one thing, but getting to the purple at Fifty/50 means that you are not only a competent, technical fighter, but that you embody the ideals of hard work and toughness that we are founded upon. We have every confidence that Kenny and Quang will show the same dedication to training at their new level that earned them respect in the past.
