Fifty/50 BJJ Hosts MGInaction’s Henrique Rezende (2012 IBJJF Pan Am Medalist) for a seminar
After a week of teaching in Tennessee, Ryan Hall made the trip up to Montreal, Canada for the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Trials where he was able to put on a dominant performance in the <65kg brown/black belt division, earning a trip to the World Pro Final in the United Arab Emirates in April.
Not to be confused with the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling World Championship (ADCC), the inaugural World Pro Jiu-Jitsu event took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 2009, and the event has grown in popularity and difficulty with each successive year with many of the world’s best Jiu-Jitsu players vying for gold in each of 5 weight classes (<143lbs, <163lbs, <183lbs, <203lbs >203lbs). This makes for some extremely interesting match-ups, as fighters who would not often face off in IBJJF events end up crossing paths. Needless to say, it is an honor to compete at the main event, as well as a unique opportunity.
Fighting at the Pierre Charboneau Centre in Montreal to win an all-expenses-paid trip to compete with the best, Ryan was able to put up 18 points on his first round Canadian opponent before finishing with a mounted keylock. In the semi-final, Ryan faced off against Panayotis Zera (Canada). There he was able to sweep, pass, score with knee-on-belly and take the back before finishing with a rear naked choke 2 minutes into the match to earn a pass to the final.
Semi-Final: Ryan Hall (USA) v. Panayotis Zera (Canada)
In the final, Ryan faced off against Eduardo Silva (Brazil). Ryan scored early with a double leg and nearly finished his opponent with an armlock off of a guard pass, but his opponent quickly turned out directly into Ryan’s oma plata with two and a half minutes remaining. With his opponent hesitant to move and risk being finished, the match ended 2-0 with a series of advantages, all for Ryan.

The day totaled out at 3 matches, 31 points for, 0 points and 0 advantages against, 2 submissions.
With his victory in the final, Ryan earned his trip to the World Pro Finals (no-gi and gi), which will take place on successive weekends in early April. Needless to say, it will be an extremely tough nut to crack, but Ryan will be training harder than ever to perform his best and fight for the gold.
