US Grappling Submission-Only Results

Fifty/50 decided last-minute to take a crew down to the Submission Only Event being held in the Richmond area on August 6, 2011 and ended up making a strong showing in closing out the most important division of the tournament.

Ryan, Josh, Ostap

Winning the Advanced Absolute

Fifty/50 dominated the most advanced divisions in the tournament that day, with Ryan Hall, Ostap Manastyrski, and Josh Presley submitting all of their opponents to win the Advanced Absolute (open weight) in addition to numerous other first place finishes.

Advanced Divisions…

In the Advanced Nogi, Ryan Hall won the 149-175lb division, rapidly submitting his three opponents while Josh Presley placing finished two of his matches to take 3rd.

Ostap Manastyrski placed 2nd in the 135-149lb division, defeating Jimmy Cerra and a Team Roc brown belt by submission on the way before losing to his black belt opponent in the final.

Purple Belts…

Josh finished his first opponent with a beautiful triangle before defeating Parker Conner (BJJ Revolution) in a marathon match in the final of his weight class.

Ostap continued his strong showing in the gi, finishing his opponents from the back as he took gold in his weight class and the Absolute (despite weighing in at a soaking wet 145 lbs)!

Blue Belts…

Blue Belt Kyle Youngman won the Intermediate Middleweight No-Gi division and placed 3rd in the Intermediate Absolute. Jon Lord placed 3rd in both his Intermediate No-Gi and blue belt divisions.

White Belts…

Greg “Big Baby” Anderson won his Beginner no-gi division before placing 3rd in the absolute and again in the white belt division.

15-year-old Spencer Hawkins went out in his second tournament ever and fought well against the adult men, with his first match going over 30 minutes!

To close things out, Mike Donaghy fought well, placing 3rd in his weight and 2nd in the white belt Absolute class, as well as 2nd in the Beginner Middleweight No-Gi.

Congrats to the Fifty/50 team for a job well done! Now…back to pracice!
