Fifty/50 BJJ Hosts MGInaction’s Henrique Rezende (2012 IBJJF Pan Am Medalist) for a seminar
Making his debut at black belt, Seph Smith defeated Thierry Quenneville (Gracie Barra) in a gi belt superfight at the Fight For Charity event in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Competing in a professional match pro bono to help raise money to fight autism, Seph was eager to break his new belt in on the competition mats for the first time.
With his opponent hesitant to engage from the start, Seph attacked with a strong foot sweep attempt before pulling guard and nearly sweeping on a number of occasions. Down an advantage and still unwilling to meaningfully engage, Seph’s opponent attempted a last-ditch footlock at the bell, but Seph defended quickly and came on top for what would have been 2 points if the match had continued. With the score tied 0-0, Seph was declared the winner by advantage for his near sweep moments earlier.
Not the world’s most exciting match, but still a solid black belt debut for Seph as he controlled the pace and positioning of the match from start to finish.
Congrats to Seph!
