Instructors Seph Smith and Jen Flannery received well-earned promotions from Felipe Costa following his seminar tonight. Both of them had to wrestle an absurdly huge gauntlet of their training partners to earn their belts. Details…

Purple & Brown Belt Test
Seph Smith moved on to the brown belt after yet another strong performance this past weekend at Grapplers Quest. Seph held onto the purple belt for 4 years and has developed tremendously as both a coach and fighter during that time. For his test, Seph wrestled for over an hour against a string of fresh opponents to earn the belt, showing the kind of conditioning and mental toughness that we expect from all our students and instructors.
Women’s Program head instructor Jen Flannery has shown a massive amount of improvement since we started things here at Fifty/50 last December. As a competitor, she has demonstrated an impressive maturity in the past 8 months, earning four international medals (including golds at the Pan American championships and the New York International Open and an extremely hard-fought bronze in the open class at the Mundial) this year alone. Moving on to the purple belt will be a challenge, but one we are sure Jen will adapt well to.
Both Jen and Seph took the long road through their old belts to earn their new straps, demonstrating great skill not only as competitors, but as instructors and coaches. They personify the hard work and dedication that it takes to earn an upper belt promotion at Fifty/50 and we can’t wait to see what they are capable of at the next level. Congratulations to the new promotees and thanks to everyone who was able to make it down!

Congradulations to Jen and Seph that is awesome. Way to go!
